Jack and Linda Robinson returned from Lakeland, Florida with these photos from Sun-N-Fun '99.
The trip was in Frank McKee's Archer and was planned as the "ultimate" fulfillment of the long IFR cross country requirement for Frank's IFR rating. They flew the required three different approaches: a VOR to CRE (Grand Strand Airport) in North Mytrle Beach, an NDB and an ILS at Gainesville.
Here is a great picture of Frank with airshow legend Bob Hoover. Bob was most gracious and spent quite a bit of time chatting with Frank and answering his questions.
Linda reports: "It's a small aviation world, we passed
Bernie Weidenaar over Georgia somewhere (heard him talking to ATC on our
frequency), saw Don Heimark at the show, literally walked into Ray Fender
and Bob Fisher in Winter Haven at Jack's Deli, and spent a whole day with
Arnie and Mary Wunder after having run into them in the parking lot of our
hotel."
| They spent a lot of time looking at the new aircraft displays, and took a demo flight in Lancair's Columbia 300 (N142LC). Linda saw two airplanes that she wanted to bring home with her. One was the vintage DC3 that has been totally refurbished as a luxury "liner." The other was the brand new King Air C90 -- "after I sweet-talked my way into the cabin for a look, I was ready to taxi out and bring it home!" |

Too bad Bud Laird wasn't there to have his picture taken under this street sign!
The flight included great views of NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
The huge Vehicle Assembly Building and the runway on which the Space Shuttle lands are amoung the landmarks that are hard to miss.
It was a great trip -- Frank flew his VFR commercial cross country on the
return trip.
Passing through a little squall over Bay Bridge produced this beautiful dual 360 degree rainbow --
what a beautiful ending to the trip!
Thanks to Linda for sharing these pix!
